About Leah Boucek

Respected family law expert

The Honorable Leah Boucek is a Commissioner for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California, where she brings nearly 30 years of experience to the bench. An expert in family law, she is also an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law where she teaches family law.

Commissioner Boucek began her legal career as a family law associate for McDougal, Love, Eckis, and Grindle in 1995. She worked as a family practitioner until 2011 when she transitioned to the non-profit sector. In 2014, she began serving the San Diego Superior Court as a staff attorney in the Family Law Facilitator’s Office. She was promoted to the position of Family Law Facilitator in 2018, where she oversaw four family law self-help centers in the different court branches. In 2023, she was selected to sit as a Commissioner, and she currently serves in an independent calendar assignment for the Family Law Division of the San Diego Superior Court.

Commissioner Boucek earned her B.A. from Point Loma Nazarene University in 1991 in Business Administration. She developed an interest in the law when she worked at the San Diego City Attorney’s Office in the Domestic Violence Unit and ultimately earned a J.D. from California Western School of Law in 1995.

Commissioner Boucek was honored to receive the Judicial Officer of the Year award in 2024 from the San Diego Family Law Bar Association. She serves as a member of the California Judicial Council’s Family Law Curriculum Committee to help plan judicial trainings statewide for family law judicial officers.
